  • I believe that parents should be responsible for taking the steps to be aware of what their children are doing on the net, also the games and t.v. programs being watched to a certain extent. The biggest deterent is to keep communication channels open with your children and discuss things with them so that they are informed about things they may come in contact with. You cannot shelter your children from the real world for very long, better to give them the skills they will need to deal with life.

  • I think that it does have an effect. If a young child around the age of 7 sees sexual acts and violence all they time on tv as he's raised. It makes that child think nothing of those and be more inclined to act in that way because they don't know its a bad thing. I think today's society has grown disgusting.   • As a Computer Games Designer, I believe the POSITIVE effects generated by computer game use are HUGELY mis-represented. I spent many many hours playing computer games as a child and I have developed into a perfectly well functioning individual, with high intelligence and social skills.

Videogames dont cause as much harm as parents think , although I feel that games like "grand theft auto" have no business being in a childs hands! 90% of televison is trash , especially sit-coms and talk shows which hide things like gender association and poor moral values behind humor and shock. When kids are home by themselves at older ages parents need a better way to prevent their childern from viewing inappropriate material, such as something that needs a password to gain access. Simply shutting off power would give kids the opportunity to figure out a way to get the power back on. When it comes to the internet I feel the same about parents and younger childern. With older children especially these days they know about ways to view things that the know they shouldn't. I actually sit down with my younger brother when he is watching shows with more adult-themed content (like South Park), laugh with him, and then talk to him about although it might be funny watching it, how it is inappropriate in a social context. The more you try to prevent your kids from having access, the less prepared they will be to make the good judgements when they encounter it on their own.

Sex and violence exist, and there's no use in overprotecting people from it. And as for the government, I don't think they should be involved in regulating it at all.

  • As far as television programming goes parental control is advised along with tools like the v-chip. You can't get into R-rated movies if you are under 17 years old; the same should be for purchasing video games. The internet website blocking programs are fine to me. Overall, it is quite unfortunate how this world has turned. I don't like what I see on tv most of the content isn't appropriate for children. Look at music videos from the 80s up till now you can see in so many shapes and forms society has progressively gotten worse in taste and moral value. Like every great civilization before us, it's just supposed to turn this way.
